Abstract High directivity low side-lobe antennas, when used for outdoor applications, significantly mitigate co-channel interference and enhance the data carrying capacity of a bandwidth allocation. For lastmile applications it is recommended that highly sectored cellular hubs, which incorporate high directivity, low side lobe antennas, be used to provide urban connectivity. Such hubs would operate as neighborhood WLAN switching centres and use a number of monitoring and adaptive techniques to maintain robust links to urban households.
